Roter Faden is a local Windows desktop application for structuring, delivering and presenting
trainings and webinars. Trainings, speaker notes, images and the license remain on your
computer in the folder %APPDATA%\RoterFaden. There is no user account, no
usage tracking and no advertising or analytics services in the application.
The license is a signed file that you receive by email after purchase. It contains your email address, the product, the order number and the purchase date. The app verifies the signature exclusively on your computer: no license server, no activation, no internet required.
Purchases are made via the checkout page of Polar Software, Inc., 3500 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, USA, which, as Merchant of Record, independently processes payment, contact and billing data under its own responsibility; its privacy policy applies. You enter your payment details there — we never see them. For processing, we receive your email address and the order data in order to deliver your license file, and we process these for the performance of the contract and on the basis of statutory retention obligations. This involves data being transferred to the USA.
At startup and thereafter at most every 30 minutes, the app requests the file tausendfreund.me/roterfaden/version.json
in order to offer a newer version. Only the technically necessary information of any
web request (IP address, time) is transmitted to the web server — no trainings, no identifier, no license data.
An update is only downloaded and installed when you press the button; the file is first
checked against its checksum.
The live view captures the selected window, the screen or the region you dragged out and shows it in the presentation window — only on your computer, without storage and without transmission. If you share the presentation window in a video conference, you decide yourself what the participants see. The app only reads the clipboard when you paste an image («Paste» (Einfügen) button or Ctrl+V) or import text.
An exported training (.roterfaden) contains the training's outline, speaker notes, images and
live view settings — nothing else. You decide whom you pass it on to.
Beyond this, the app does not transmit any personal data. No tracking, no audience measurement, no disclosure to third parties for advertising purposes.
This product website is a static information page without cookies, without tracking and without analytics services. No forms are offered and no external fonts or scripts from third-party servers are embedded. When the site is accessed, the hosting provider records technically necessary server log data (e.g. IP address, time, requested page), which is processed to provide and secure the operation of the site. The website is hosted by STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Strasse 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany (strato.de/datenschutz).
In particular, you have the right of access (Art. 25 revFADP), rectification, erasure and data portability, provided the legal requirements are met. To exercise them, contact the address given above. The competent supervisory authority is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
This policy describes Roter Faden as of version 0.8.0. Changes to the app will be reflected here.
