2. Overview

Sniffony is a local Windows desktop application that analyses network captures (pcap, pcapng) of SIP systems. Captures contain connection data and possibly call content. Sniffony reads them only on your computer; none of it is sent to us or to third parties. Settings, networks and the license are stored in %APPDATA%\Sniffony. There is no user account, no usage tracking and no advertising or analytics services.

You are responsible for the captures themselves: recording telephony requires a legal basis (e.g. operating and troubleshooting your own system), and the data must be protected and deleted accordingly.

3. Processing in the desktop app

3.1 License check (no data transfer)

The license is a signed file you receive by e-mail after purchase. It contains your e-mail address, the product, the order number and the purchase date. The app verifies the signature only on your computer: no license server, no activation, no internet needed.

3.2 Purchase/payment (merchant of record)

Purchases are made on the checkout page of Polar Software, Inc., 3500 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, USA, which as merchant of record independently processes payment, contact and invoice data under its own privacy policy. We receive your e-mail address and the order data to deliver the license file and process them to fulfil the contract and meet statutory retention duties. Data is transferred to the USA in the process.

3.3 Updates

At start-up the app requests tausendfreund.me/sniffony/version.json to offer a newer version. Only the technically necessary details of every web request are transmitted (IP address, time) — no captures, no identifier, no license data. An update is downloaded and installed only when you press the button; the file is verified against its checksum beforehand.

3.4 Provider lookup (RDAP, can be switched off)

To assign foreign IP addresses in a capture to a provider, Sniffony queries the public registries (RDAP: IANA, RIPE NCC, ARIN, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC). Only the foreign IP address concerned is transmitted — no phone numbers, no content. Answers are cached locally. You can switch this off at any time under ⚙ Settings → Provider; private addresses are never looked up.

3.5 No other transfers

Beyond that the app transmits no personal data. No tracking, no reach measurement, no disclosure to third parties.

4. This website

This website is a static information page without cookies, tracking or analytics. It offers no forms and embeds no external fonts or scripts. When it is accessed, the hosting provider records technically necessary server log data (e.g. IP address, time, page requested). The website is hosted by STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Strasse 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany (strato.de/datenschutz).

5. Retention

6. Your rights (Switzerland, revFADP)
